Early Life and EducationGeorge Santayana(1863-1952), a renowned philosopher and writer, was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1863.
Of Spanish descent, he received his education in Boston and at Harvard College, graduating in 1886. After studying philosophy at the University of Berlin, he returned to Harvard and completed his doctoral dissertation under the guidance of William James.
