Samantha Lewthwaite was the “shy” schoolgirl from the Home Counties who grew up to become the world’s most wanted woman.

The 29-year-old mum-of-four spent much of her life in the Buckinghamshire town of Aylesbury, although her very early years were spent in Northern Ireland.

Born to English soldier Andy Lewthwaite, she was still at primary school when her family moved to a modest terraced house in the town.

Her parents separated in 1995 and as a teenager she became friendly with a Muslim family who helped her convert to Islam.

Her interest in the religion developed further, and in 2002 she enrolled for a degree course in politics and the study of religions at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, leaving after just two months.

In the same year she met Jamaican-born 7/7 bomber Germaine Lindsay via an Islamic internet chatroom and the couple married a few months later.
