Nancy Anne Sakovich was born on October 8, 1961 in Belleville, Ontario, and was raised in Ottawa.
In 1977, she started studying at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario and earned a B.A.

degree in environmental science in 1981.
She was later discovered by the Elite Modeling Agency and started her career modelling in Germany, Italy, France, and England. She soon developed a thriving fashion-magazine career in Europe before coming back to Canada.
During that time she felt that modeling was "not that thrilling," but acting was "an instant passion."
