  • Currently the facility hosts instruments for the New England Seismic Network and the World-Wide Standardized Seismograph Network. These instruments are used to monitor earthquakes globally with a focus on the northeast United States.

Burns Library holds archival records for the observatory as well as the personal papers of Daniel Linehan, a professor in the geoscience department at Boston College and director of the Weston Observatory from 1950-1972.

Linehan was a leading geophysicist who partook in three Antarctic expeditions between 1954 and 1958 with the objective of determining the thickness of ice caps. Burns Library holds his records from those trips, information on ice surveys, pictures and correspondence.
